another dinner, yes, eating is the only ritual here in kuching for all occasions. this time with your family members - siblings, nieces, nephews and relatives.
you were glad that your eldest brother able to make it by postpones his business trip by a day or two. you appreciate it. he is a typical chinese man who doesn't express his love and emotion but the fact that he postponed his trip says it all.
since not all your siblings, nieces and nephews are in town, you invite your uncle and aunty (your mum's younger brother) to join you too.
and the family of your third sister who still live in kuching with her childern aka your niece and nephew.
you didn't eat much because you ate too much the last couple of days spoiling yourself with the Kuching food and you gain weight as expected. so tonight you just simply enjoy the presence of your family, enjoy the conversation, watching them eating but abstain from the food because you are just not hungry.
roasted suckling pork, very nicely done according to your honey but you didn't even taste a piece.
assorted hot plate (熱盤) - fried fish roll, butter prawn and two other types that you didn't try.
a cold plate (冷盤) with marinated jelly fish, seaweed, giant shrimps with mayo, mushroom and 'abalone'. you tasted some of these.
roasted duck, very nicely done, you both were impressed by the quality of the food rendered and the skill of the chefs to deliver such yummy food. although to your honey what is lacking is the sauce. he couldn't accept that the suckling pork is without the hoisin sauce or mustard and likewise the duck didn't come with plum sauce.
and of course your favorite sarawak fern - midin with belacan ( fried with shrimp paste and chili) one dish that you have eaten for more than three times but never get enough.
you cherish the chance you had with your family members because these moments are rare and precious since you living so far away from 'home'.
you learn to appreciate your uncles and aunties even more as you know from this trip that your elder uncle (in kuching) and the eldest aunt in canada past away last year. dead is something that beyond your control but something that you see more lately to your mum's siblings that you know eventually each one will have its time but you just want to spend more time with them where possible.
