spring winter cleaning can be tedious... you spent the whole day clearing up just a few cupboards in your kitchen.. and you are totally exhausted...

 meanwhile you also baked a loaf of bara birth.  bara birth is a welsh tea cake, it's rather common during the Christmas season.  you never had a taste of it but decided to challenge yourself, so you took delia smith's recipe and adopt from there.

 there are many version, some are cakey without yeast, but yours is with yeast and it has the bread texture.  you couldn't taste the tea despite your mixed fruits were soaked overnight in the very strongly infused tea.

 you ate two slice when it's still warm and it's delicious. it's home made.

 you just spread a thin layer of rum butter and wash it down with a cup of tea. you feel momentarily relief in the midst of the mess at home.

you're feeling a little depressed, perhaps it's the weather, the sky has been grey the past few days. so you lit up a candle at home tonight. yes, you are home alone most evening, he is working late shift, but it does feel a little more like Christmas.

tomorrow is the shortest day, also the winter solstice, from there onward the daylight will be getting longer again....
