longhouse.dining

dining in a longhouse is an experience. well, this is not a real longhouse but a show case of a restaurant where there is a demonstration of tribal weaving technique and interior decoration according to dayak or bidayu longhouse.

the rattan wall, bamboo table, wooden bank and the tribal pattern decorative textile. this place is quite 'longhouse' even to your standard.

you came here for dinner with one of your childhood friends - B. You know her since kindergarten and grew up together in primary school and play together throughout the teenage hood. She is now a mother of two and her husband is a talented cook specializing in japanese cuisine which you have the privilege to try this trip.


you know her mum from young as you sometime go to her house for meals and she has not aged at all, still looks the same as yesterday.

and of course her two lovely kids M - a ten year old boy and C - a 8 year old petite sweet little girl. both are adorable 'net generation' kids who play iPhone and face booking.

the chef of this restaurant formerly worked in sarawak club, a prestigious club house in kuching. It's a relief for your honey when the menu has most dishes that he can identify. so we ordered a few dishes to go with rice.


a stir fried baby kailan, healthy green but a bit on the oily side.

Stir fried beef with green pepper. a typical home cook dish that goes well with rice.


the signature dish of which this restaurant is famous for, the butter prawns. It lives up to the reputation and very yummy indeed.


a cold dish of mirin, instead of the normal stir fried with shrimp paste, this is a slightly sweet and sour marinated, so refreshing and appetizing. you like the new way of how mirin is prepared.


kids love these steamed buns (饅頭). the little boy ate four of these by himself.


and the girl has more craving for dessert, half way through our food she already request her ice cream.

each of them have their share of a orange split while the adults are happy with their tea/coffee.

after a few days of street eats and conquest for kuching hawker food, you're both were relief to have a decent meal at a longhouse.
