r.o.t.i

roti is a malay word that has several meanings. it could mean bread, toast, biscuit or the indian roti canai.  in the lowland, a roti is always referring to the surinam's pancake that serves with generous portion of curry of your choice and green. but the roti among the chinese community means bread prepared in a variety of ways...

your niece took you out for supper as soon as you arrived kuching home. at a hangout place called 'after two', she ordered roti milo (literally "milo bread" and milo is a local branded of lightly sweeten cacao powder). a thick white bread with a spread of condensed milk and a generous layer of milo. how could you literally forgotten about the existence of  this snack that you munched on whenever you were hungry....

mean time you opt for a butter and honey roti toast which is okay but nothing to shout about. you were literally attacking her roti milo then eatingyour butter and honey toast.

on a different occasion, together with your friend you went to another eatery called 'after three' and you thought is a chain store of 'after two' but the roti milo is being interpreted in a complete different way. a total disappointment. this is a no no place for roti milo.

the famous charcoal grilled roti kahwin bakar (marriage toast) with peanut butter, butter and kaya.  the light charcoal smoke is something hard to get these  days but you could easily eat this at your SIL's coffee shop... and the combination of the three in one (peanut butter, butter and kaya) is a divine trinity. this toast is so rich that you share the half with your niece.
