residenz.wurzburg

it's really hard to imagine a relatively small city in the franconia has so much history, monuments and sights. it has a total different feel from another city nuremberg that you visited on your outbound.

the residenz apparently is the unesco listed monument, it's built by a archbishop which later appointed as prince of franconia.
bulk of the building were burned down during the second world war, but the city has put an effort to reconstruct some part of the building to its original past glory, although the other part of the building was rebuilt but not restored.

it was too hot to walk outdoor so you seek refuge by visiting the residenz.  it's quite impressive, especially the ceiling fresco painting. you managed to join a guided tour that explained you further the paintings, the stories and the significant of once franconia region and now part of bavaria.  this painting is at the beginning of the tour, guests are supposed to appreciate the painting as they walk up the stair......

the guided tour was brief and it was too stuffy to be in those once upon the time guest room that despite well restored and maintained but not air condition.  this is the view from the window, where you can see the fortress at the other side of the river and on top of the hill, you plan to check that one out too!
but at the same time you were more interested in the court yard garden just behind the residenz, nicely layout with fountains and cone tree.  the weather was beautiful too for a stroll in the garden
despite the fact that residenz is just a place for archbishop, it's actually comparable or bigger than the princess sisi apartment in the city of vienna.
