kauppatori is the finnish name for market square, it is totally alive and kicking when spring hits helsinki. today is actually a bank holiday in lowland, you just seized your moment to take the first flight out so that you can spend a day checking out the city.
this place was like a empty and barren city square just a few weeks ago when you last visited the uspenski cathedral . today the market is busy, bustling and vibrant....
everyone is buying these sweet peas, kids just split the peas and pop them into their mouth directly
the market is rather touristic, a lot of baltic and russian visitors
you arrived at about lunch time but you're not in the adventurous mood to try some of the lapland or finnish delicacies such as reindeer meat, boar meat and others...
the food is a bit too greasy for you
the harbor view is ever so magnificent, event without the clear blue sky
you walked around, they're plenty of stalls, food, souvenirs, jewelry, terrace cafes and many more. all clean, orderly and pleasant to stroll.
from here, you follow the crowd to the newly open old market hall (vanha kauppahalli). the hall was closed for a year and just reopen today.
