::portugalete::
located just outskirt of bilbao, reachable by one of the metro line. you decided to drop by in the late afternoon as you recalled the hairy bakers once visited this quaint village that has a vizcaya bridge or puente colgante that links two village together over a hanging ferry. this is now one of the unesco heritage.
to get to the bridge you have to walk down a steep hills and cross the old town and you will be by the river.
the river promenade is quite long, if the weather was sunny you could have walk along the river to the very end where it lead to sea.
since you arrived late, so you just join the local folks strolling leisurely people watching, tents are being set up for festival and a water polo match was playing at the river.
honestly speaking, this is probably not worth a trip if not because of the ferry and the bridge, if you're looking for something dynamic and happening you will stay in bilbao or donostia. it's just a quick detour from bilbao city so that's alright for you particularly you do have enough time to explore different cities in basque country.
that said, the pintxos here are one of the cheapest.
