namagashi.love.生.菓.子.の.愛

your love for japanese namagashi is just like your passion for french macaron.
both are in one bite size, petite but intense and satisfying. you don't need to have a second helping of these. one is just enough!
you pick up a box of four when you were at kagaruzaka (神楽坂). you enjoy your broken japanese conversation with the store owner, her limited english and your limited japanese make a perfect delightful conversation which you both enjoyed but not fully understood one another. but never mind, you are here to pick up the seasonal namagashi and they are pretty!

you don't know what this is called, but it is made of salty miso and and wrapped with sweet mochi, so the entire eating experience is in complete harmony.

firefly namagashi, representing the night/evening happenings in tokyo.  you almost want to go for the firefly matsuri during your last few days in tokyo but the humid weather put you off...

summer is hot in japan, so this gives you the cooling effect like the goldfish swimming in the water.  how creative and symbolic!

you know now your love for namagashi is not because of the variety of taste like macaron but more to the exterior appearance of the namagashi. the innard most of the time is made of anko (sweet bean paste). but it's the symbolic idea of harmony...

iris flower, one of the summer flowers that flourishing tokyo in june especially in meiji jingu's inner garden.

much to your surprise is that you had this one in your insulin cool bag and transport it all the way back to the lowland. since it is in the cool bag and you put it straight to the fridge on your arrival and thus...

you got to enjoy it at home ^.^ with a small glass of matcha concentrated barley weed powder drink. it tastes as bitter as the japanese matcha except it doesn't need to be whisked...

this is indeed your very last namagashi, you will not got to enjoy another fresh one in awhile...
but you know your love for namagashi will not fade away...
