athens.of.the.north

it almost looks like athens here. well, you know you are not in greece but in scotland.

you love the summer in the northern europe, on a good day you get the sun until 10pm. you walk up the slope to calton hill, the mini version of "acorpolis" awaiting you.

nothing more than an abandoned project with a few pillars, a never completed national monument, an architecture that never reaches its glory.

you remember your time in athens so well, the breakfast with the view of acropolis the quick stopover before you catch your flight home. and now you have the opportunity to do this again with your new job, not tie up long term in a project but short trips.

at the top, there are different paths and this one is leading you towards the north where the fifth of firth is clearly visible on a good day.
and you just feel like lying on the meadow, doing nothing but just enjoy the late summer sun and a bit of open space and nature. you mind needs an escape. right here you feel free. temporary relief from the mundanes of life. you wish you could just become a bird and fly from here, for a short ride that will take your attention out from things that have been bordering you lately. but you know very well the true freedom will not come in this manner. for only the truth of God will set you free from the stress... and a few verses pop up in your mind and you search the bible on your cell phone.  matthew 6:25-27 "therefore i tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. are you not much more valuable than they? can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life.
you stood up and walk to the other side of the hill.

dugald stewart monument and the outlook of the eastern side of the city

and of course the famous edinburgh castle visible from here. another last look around and you walk down as the sun is hiding under the cloud and the chilly wind kisses your face. a reality check.
but you know matthew 6:34 "therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. each day has enough trouble of its own". you look at the "giants" in your life, you smile. and you walk down the hill, knowing that you are not alone on this fight, He is with you.
