inside the mmka, you first explore the exhibition of six yards guaranteed dutch design. it' about the different prints and designs on the textile, all made in holland, dutch design but yet very un-dutch and heavily influenced by other parts of the world....
you first encounter this, it's look like a african print reinterpreted in a modern european dutch setting... very cheerful and colorful.
then there are more prints on display, some designs are taken solely from the daily objects in the kitchen, others are farm life such as animal, occasionally you find the nice graphical prints that resemble flowers and plants. some of the designs are very close to the batik that you are familiar with...
he thinks the middle (third) textile print would fit for a chinese cheongsam (qipao) like the unconventional ones in the movie "in the mood for love"
likewise the left textile print is fit for a modern chinese cheongsam
you see these sometime wearing by african men on the street, guess these are their cultural attire
and many other prints have made their way to the fashion world in paris and many other fashion cities.
they are other exhibitions on display too...
such as "a space for realism", you find the paintings less interesting and less appealing, well at least that's true after you explored the colorful textiles....
shilpa gupta has installation here too with starting quote of "fear has to give way to dialogue"...
you find this quite interesting, three two man in the six yards textile playing shooting and the net is made of eggs...
