lucca is a gem city that endears itself to those who visit. it is hidden behind imposing renaissance walls, its cobbled streets, handsome piazzas and shady promenades. the wall is 12 meter high with the length of 4km surrounding the city.
not knowing much about the history of lucca and the fact that you didn't read up before hand makes it hard for you to appreciate the city. however, reading and catching up retrospectively does help a bit. the overall impression, lucca is definitely a nice and neat city that lies within the city wall.
the architecture of cathedral di san martino here is quite different, most cathedrals are mostly white and the style is definitely new to you. it resembles some form of architecture that you've seen in venice and that's really all. anyway, you like exquisite wedding cake facade
you wanted to eat cheap(er) but the restaurant that you want to check out was closed on monday, as you check around the eateries and restaurants, olivo wasn't your first choice but since your not so little anymore nephew shed a few tears as he's in desperation of hunger, so you settle your lunch here.
little you know the food served is quite nice. you ordered the spaghetti alle il mare (seafood) and it's perfect al dente and full of the flavor of the sea.
you parted with your sil and nephew shortly after lunch and you went for further strolling, exploring the city further. the weather of the day was in perfect blue color, not a shade of cloud. this's your first italian city excursion, it's been a good experience.
