A Taste of Imperial, Ancient and Festive Tokyo

Another day filled with sight seeing but also a bit of relaxation. Weather is slightly better than yesterday with less rain...
In short, we visited the imperial palace, the imperial East Garden, head out of Tokyo to Kawagoe and end our night at Asakusa Matsuri...

The Imperial Palace

I applied for the permit before we arrived, and so this is kind of special tour to some sights of the Imperial Palace which one would not allow to visit otherwise.

View of the Tokyo city from the Imperial Palace ground, the palace is surrounded by high rise buildings.

Later in the afternoon we decided to get out of the city and headed to Kawagoe (川越城), a city which is generally known as the 'little Edo'. Some streets of the city is still preserved with the old storehouse or merchant house with architecture from the Edo era.

Ice cream with purple sweet potato flavor. very delicious and taste natural and a mean to cool down on a hot summer day. Kawagoe also has a lot of namagashi to offer, which I bought assorted types from different stores to enjoy later.....

The black time belltower - koki-no-kane

Then we rest and had our late lunch at a little noodle shop behind a soy sauce shop . Lovely place with soft classical music playing at the background. Udon is home and hand made. The order took awhile to arrive and I appreciate it because every ingredient is freshly after the order is placed. The establishment is in Japanese style and very zen. We stayed for a long time and feel completely relaxed as if after a spa treatment.

In the evening, there is a matsuri (festival ) at Asakusa Senjo -ji again.

The pagoda is lighted up as well....

Store selling the main matsuri item, which is a fruit in orange color covers by soft paper feel leave in the same color as the fruit. Will check out more tomorrow ....

Good night!
