"can you make a cake again?", he asks.
"what flavor do you want?" i reply.
"pandan?" i suggest.
"no...no... no artificial flavor... just bake a matcha cake for me". he said...

i baked matcha chiffon cake in the morning before leaving for the wedding ceremony of a young couple from our church.  at the wedding we met and spoke to a japanese student and suddenly it makes me realize that baking matcha chiffon cake is not a co-incident. perhaps both of us are missing our adventure in japan... browsing through my japan photo album, i am now seriously missing japan, missing the serenity green of the japanese gardens, missing the quietness and the simplicity of kyoto....
that is not something that can be satisfied by japanese food or matcha chiffon cake not even a cuppa of real authentic matcha...

with every tree getting barren and leaves browning away here... i turn to my last box of japanese green tea that i bought from ipodo, kyoto. an authentic and historical old tea house...

making myself a cup of matcha soy bean
the green color doesn't come out visually on the matcha chiffon cake (i used a different green tea powder) and i notice there are some air pockets on my cake...
well,  let the bitterness of the ipodo green tea pinching my tongue as i take a sip of the matcha soy bean.
after all, missing japan is a bitter sweet experience...
happy weekend!
