if you asked me what is the dutch signature dish, i probably will say the dutch pea soup (erwtensoep) is the only dish that could uniquely represent the lowland. this is served throughout the year, although it would probably be too heavy for spring and summer. but in the winter, i sometime missed this soup... there are plenty of root vegetables in this soup and the highlight is really the worst (sausage) and my favorite is to use the lean worst from hema, that is a perfect combination for this soup.
a perfect lunch on a work from home friday. the soup is not so soupy in the photo as it has already set overnight and i didn't reheat it again in the pot under low heat (too troublesome) but just warm it up in microwave, so despite the fact that it looks a little lumpy, it taste a lot better than last night. the chili flakes are not dutch though, i just want to have some umphhh in my soup and the korean chili flakes do create the kick but doesn't spoil the original taste of the soup.
and two tortilla wraps with the spread of tomato paste and cheese hot pressed in the toast machine.
that's my simple friday lunch at home.
.simple but powerful and definitely energizing.
another friday. in fact three more fridays to 2011.
