jonker.street

gosh, this is almost outdated post as you are about to make another trip back to malaysia and the post about melaka is still in draft.  so you are going to post more backlog stories of your homeland before they become totally obsolete...

it was very warm when you were there, typical malaysia weather in the month of june. despite that jonker street is a must visit you actually find it too bizarre to walk on during the day...
cars are allowed to drive through this busy street which is already crowded with domestic and international tourists. cars double parked on the small street and still more cars are passing through this miserably small street (after the double parking) and the human traffic that crossing the street hopping in and out different restaurants and stores...
you didn't line up for the famous shop that serves the famous chicken rice ball,  you went to another restaurant instead betting that it will be equally good, but these balls were disappointingly dry
the otak otak (fish paste) was a meal savior...
you lost your mood to explore after a lousy meal and the humid weather is overwhelming you. you were sweating like mad and air condition is just what you need, so you retreat back to your noisy inn.

in the evening, you venture to jonker street again knowing that the night market is on...

walked past the river bank, the blue has given the river a different atmosphere... there gone the dirty river although the smell remains evident...
jonker walk has a very different feel compare to the day too, not that is is quieter but in realty even more bustling than the day.
albeit that the road is closed for car but the human traffic is equally congested, everybody taking their sweet time to stroll and check out the various stalls... you are more interested in the hawker food stalls
at the main split junction, here is where most local aunties congregated. they were sitting, chatting and watching
 uncles take turn singing karaoke....
with the out of tune voice from the enthusiastic uncles, and the humid air, the wet and warm street, the smells of food from various hawker stalls all mingle together, the tourists and locals alike, perhaps this is the true spirit of jonker street. a famous street that not suppose to be clean and orderly.
this is jonker street, the very street of melaka.
