melting.moment

being nostalgic about annual festive event? perhaps. you have never been sentimental about chinese spring festival or chinese new year since you moved  to the lowland. over here CNY is just another normal working and ordinary day.

perhaps it's due to your recent home trip and seeing all these CNY cookies and goodies on sales the day after christmas in the supermarket.... perhaps food always travels well down the memory lane... may be food is also a sort of bonding and ties with your family back then when your mum is still around.
you never bother to learn how to make any of the CNY cookies back then. you remember it's usually  about a month before the festival, your mum will gather every female in the house to make cookies together, you remember you stood hours at the stove outdoor to watch over the shimmering of the pineapple jam.  you were never assigned an interesting chores as you are the youngest.  washing and cleaning up the mess was your ultimate duty on days like that.  so as a result, you never learned a skill from your mum, nor did you ever express any interest when you were young.
today, you made these green pea cookies. your first try ever on CNY cookies.  you never heard of this cookie before, at least this is not one of the common CNY cookies in your home town.  that makes it all the more you want to try making this. there's no green pea powder here, so you spent an hour yesterday using the coffee bean grinder to grind your own version of green pea powder... it's hard labor but kinda adds some fun on a rather "uncommon" and quiet work week.
today you baked these cookies, easy and swift... so delicious yet unhealthy when you watch the amount of oil goes into the flour.  they are not overly sweet and the aonori gives the salty seaweed after taste.  these green pea cookies are so addictive especially the melt in your mouth moment....

you might actually bake different types of cookies this year, just for the fun and memory of a festival that rooted so deep in you, yet it has become so distant...
