We are still in the height of the summer here in the Netherlands, today is surprisingly 28C, even at the coastline.
We head southbound to Yerseke, an island in Zeeland where Mussels day is celebrated. It took as awhile to reach our destination due to traffic. It is my first time to Yerseke and also to this festival.
Crowds in the city center - browsing the flea market...
We went with friends in 3 cars and I almost thought we will never met up due to the crowds, but at the end we met up for mussels.
Production line - workers cooking and assembling cooked mussels
This is where we collected our mussels, a simple production line with some one cooking at the back, some one scoping the mussels and hand it over to the clients..
Guests enjoying mussels - feasting on a long table...
All we need to do is to find a seat and then tug with hands, and throw the empty shells into the grey box prepared on the table...
My portion of mussels - 2 Euro but they are all juicy, fresh and fatty...
I was told by a friend that years ago, these mussels were given out free... but I guess situation has changed, anyway, I am willing to pay €2 for such a big portion treat.
