Kuching Food: Hakka Signature 'Lui Cha' 客家擂茶

23rd January 2009

A typical "Hakka” signature food, mum used to make this for us but instead of the green soup, she always substitutes it with strong Oolong tea. My uncle made ‘ lui cha‘(擂茶) of this type. We were in search for breakfast one morning in Kuching before heading to hospital, and our niece brought us to a restaurant that sells this dish. I personally not a fan of "Lui Cha" 客家擂茶 as I thought the soup taste a bit strange. It tastes very green and extremely bitter with different sort of bitterness as the soup is made of blended vegetables to form the green juice. It is pretty much a vegetarian meal, and as I topped it with peanut, the fragrant of peanut accents the entire dish to the fullest.
